A few weeks ago, the SBA Wellness Committee held our very first Healthy Potluck. For weeks beforehand, people were buzzing about this event, and it was well worth the wait.

Around noon on June 25th, people started gathering in Left Field, our rooftop meeting space that also houses a full kitchen. As a member of the wellness committee and a participant, I was already there as the rest of the food began to arrive, and some of the dishes were works of art.

There were about 15 or so mouthwatering dishes that ranged from salads to chili, each with its own healthy twist and bursting with flavor.

Unintentionally, the event coincided with the US vs. Germany World Cup soccer match, so while we enjoyed our diverse lunch, we played the match on every screen. The room hummed with conversation punctuated by random shouts and cheers.

Everyone was able to vote for their top three dishes by placing a raffle ticket in to voting cups near to each dish. The biggest complaint was that we could only pick three, but ultimately, a decision was made. The first-place winner was Dave DiNuzzo with his hearty Farro, Grilled Beet, and Asparagus Salad with Goat Cheese Dressing.

Our runners up included Kaitlyn Kline’s savory-sweet Greek Yogurt Chicken Salad, and Jaymie Hill with her crowd-pleasing Vegetarian Taco “Cupcakes”. (Apologies to Jaymie, we didn’t get a photo of these, but trust us when we say they were amazing.)

With just a little time and space donated by the agency, we experienced some quality team-building time, swapped some incredible healthy recipes, and discovered that SBA is full of great home chefs. Kudos to Nora DiNuzzo for conceiving of and organizing the event, and a huge thank you to our participants, without whom this event would have been nothing.

Until next time, bon appétit!
