Like it or heart it, no matter your relationship status with social media it’s now a part of our daily lives – both personal and professional. So for the second year, Smith Brothers Agency brought together a diverse group of speakers to celebrate Social Media Day in our Left Field Meeting Space.
Social Media Day was created by Mashable 2010 as a way to recognize the digital revolution, every year thousands of people organize events across the globe. To make the Pittsburgh party official, we worked with Mayor Bill Peduto’s office to proclaim June 30th as Social Media Day.
After some mingling and networking, Holly Byers from Pinterest spoke about updates and trends from the platform. Holly announced that earlier in the day Pinterest rolled out its new “Buy It” button exclusively to a group of advertisers. This new function allows consumers to purchase an item straight from the pin.
The theme of this year’s Pittsburgh celebration was “Using Social Media for Social Good.” The Smith Brothers team assembled a group of some of Pittsburgh’s most influential social media personalities, businesses and organizations to share rapid-fire case studies on how they’ve used social media to affect change for social good.
Highlights from the speakers can be best captured in tweets from the night!
With a room full of approximately 150 socially active guests, it’s not a surprise that #SMDayPGH generated more than 900 tweets was trending in Pittsburgh for more than TEN hours! Some of the most popular words used to describe the day can be viewed below.
